Description

There is a lot to look for in this pedigree, especially for anyone looking to breed for black. We adopted a strategy of breeding our black females to Virtuoso's dad, Snowmass Midnight Sun, a fawn carrying the recessive black "E" allele.
It's simple...our first breeding priority was increasing fiber density, the major shortcoming in most blacks that we saw, by bringing the fiber characteristics of the lighter colors into our black and grey breeding designs.
Sunny has delivered the goods and improved our color breeding across the board, bringing Snowmass Legacy Gold's genetics into our gene pool with a vengeance.

It comes as no surprise when one reviews Sunny's show record, serial histograms and especially skin follicle testing (follicle density 63.2/mm2 and S/P 11.2 ) , which would be "off the charts" were he black instead of a black carrier. Keep in mind, that his show record was in the very competitive light fawn class, and against some of the best in the country.

Virtuoso, obviously is his dad's clone, and likewise carries the recessive black E allele from mom, an exceptional black. One only needs to look at the toes, black eye liner and black gums:

Mom, RR Tempest is a half sister to our reknowned grey herdsire, RR Gun's Kit Carson. She is one of the very few blacks to come out of Snowmass Royal Bronze, a very longstanding fixture on the Skinner's herdsire row, who is known for his lingering super-fine fleece.
It's no "fluke" that Tempest has the serial histograms that she does. What is surprising is the length that she is sporting in a brilliant non fading black fleece.
There is little to compromise in density. She has a follicle density of 49.5/mm2, an S/P 10.3, and a differential between "in skin" follicle density of less than 10 micron between her primaries and secondaries...very nice indeed, and especially in black. These are numbers to rival some of the best known whites.

This boy has a lot to offer for the discerning breeder.
