RR ROSE LA REINA
Huacaya, Female, Unproven | Medium Fawn
ARI# 30669031, D.O.B. 10/10/2009, 7/8 Peruvian
Sire: Aussie Guns-n-Roses ARI#
30036107 Medium Rose Grey GnR is now owned by Fun in the Country Alpacas in Michigan. He remains on our "Hall of Fame" as herdsire emeritus, for all that he has contributed!
Deciding which herdsire to use in your breeding program? Here's what we do..
Pedigree: An excellent indicator of a male's EBV (estimated breeding value). We want lines with established pre-potency that have demonstrated sustained fineness through at least 4-5 years. Click on GnR's ARI cert icon above.
Conformation: It has to be a given, if it's not, the search stops here. We like a male that is well proportioned, but compact. We want good bite and head. Solid bone and strong fore and hindquarters. We prefer good sized testicles and want to see him breeding before age 2 and maintaining a vigorous libido thereafter...but an even non aggressive temperament. GnR is our poster boy for all of the above.
Fiber: Hand and uniformity: That's easy! Just put it against your cheek.A grid sample can be found by going to our website...he's consistant across a broad blanket top to belly, brisket to tail.
Fineness: It's not about 1st shear micron. What's the 4th shear like? Don't hide the SD and % over 30 micron...that's what the industry is crying for. And while your at it, check out the difference between the micron in primary and secondary fibers and their respective SDs (on skin biopsy stats).
Brightness: GnR's fiber glows...a quality not lost on every one of his offspring.
Density: Fiber doesn't have to "feel" dense...more often than not that's a sign of coarseness. Quite simply, GnR is the densest grey biopsied through Jim Watt's lab in Australia, and they've been doing it for over 20 years. If you click on the histogram icon, you will see his biopsy results. An explanation of those numbers can be found on our website.
Length: His fiber is ridiculously long. His 4th shear (at right) is only 315 days.
Dam: Snowmass Gold Starz ARI#
841156 Dark Fawn Full Peruvian - Here are lines that represent Snowmaster and 4P Legacy. Starz has produced three cria with 17 micron density. She is fine, dense, uniform with outstanding definition in her fiber at age 5, and put into a conformationally perfect package. Her sire, Legacy Gold, sold for $500K at the Snowmass 2006 auction and when we came across her as lot #18 in 2007, we knew that we had to have her.
Her 2007 cria, out of Snowmass Royal Rose, i.e. Snowmass RRoyal Stars, is on our herdsire row and has been tested by Ian Watt:
His follicle density of 79.51 and S/P of 13.0/1 place him as the 4th densest alpaca they've tested in the US, 5th in the world.
Of course, that's only a small part of the biopsy data, histogram and expert show ring evaluation against the best that we feel, have placed him in the superstar category. See his listing for more detail on acquiring these superlative genetics.
Her 2008 breeding to our own Guns n Roses gave us a gor
Service Sire: RR DUKE ELLINGTON ARI#
35113522 Medium Silver Grey We couldn't have ordered up a more desired Legato Grigio son to carry on our "modern" grey breeding program. Duke Ellington is out of one of our very best production females.
He is a stunning "blue roan". We expect that he will show the same pattern of dominant grey inheritance as his sire, RR Legato Grigio. LG has been one of the most prepotent males that we have worked over the years and his production rivals that of his renowned sire RR Gun's A'Blazin'.
He has had a very strong showing against competition and has superlative analytics in his skin biopsies done through Ian Watt:
Follicle density: 68.9/cm2
S/P: 10.5:1
in skin primary micron: 25.0 SD 3.3
In skin secondary micron: 20.7 SD 3.0
We are offering Duke so that he can get the production that he deserves.. His markings have been established as a white spot rather than a tuxedo gene. As such, he will transmit a dominant roan gene and we recommend that he he be bred to solid color dams with neither a white spot or tuxedo gene.
Description
When you have a winning combination, it's hard not to stick with it. Snowmass Gold Starz is one of our very best females and mom to our outstanding herdsire Snowmass RRoyal Stars, who must be seen to be believed.
We bred her to our own Guns n Roses for 2008 and manufactured RR Rose Fiona, one of our champion "starlets".
Could we possibly improve on this outcome? We just might have...La Reina will attend the coronation ball. We are getting used to seeing some outstanding cria fleeces in the two years that GnR has been breeding, but this little princess has us slack jawed.
We know where she'll be this spring!

Commments:
"The very good S:P ratio along with the elite density and good fiber population differential of just over 6 microns, are, without doubt, the genetic-indicator that elite gene suppliers are looking for-this is an exceptional animal"...Ian Watts
