Sire: Aussie Guns-n-Roses ARI#
30036107 Medium Rose Grey GnR is now owned by Fun in the Country Alpacas in Michigan. He remains on our "Hall of Fame" as herdsire emeritus, for all that he has contributed!
Deciding which herdsire to use in your breeding program? Here's what we do..
Pedigree: An excellent indicator of a male's EBV (estimated breeding value). We want lines with established pre-potency that have demonstrated sustained fineness through at least 4-5 years. Click on GnR's ARI cert icon above.
Conformation: It has to be a given, if it's not, the search stops here. We like a male that is well proportioned, but compact. We want good bite and head. Solid bone and strong fore and hindquarters. We prefer good sized testicles and want to see him breeding before age 2 and maintaining a vigorous libido thereafter...but an even non aggressive temperament. GnR is our poster boy for all of the above.
Fiber: Hand and uniformity: That's easy! Just put it against your cheek.A grid sample can be found by going to our website...he's consistant across a broad blanket top to belly, brisket to tail.
Fineness: It's not about 1st shear micron. What's the 4th shear like? Don't hide the SD and % over 30 micron...that's what the industry is crying for. And while your at it, check out the difference between the micron in primary and secondary fibers and their respective SDs (on skin biopsy stats).
Brightness: GnR's fiber glows...a quality not lost on every one of his offspring.
Density: Fiber doesn't have to "feel" dense...more often than not that's a sign of coarseness. Quite simply, GnR is the densest grey biopsied through Jim Watt's lab in Australia, and they've been doing it for over 20 years. If you click on the histogram icon, you will see his biopsy results. An explanation of those numbers can be found on our website.
Length: His fiber is ridiculously long. His 4th shear (at right) is only 315 days.
Dam: SNOWMASS GOLDEN DREAMS ARI#
850320 Dark Fawn Her sire, Legacy Gold, sold for $500K at the Snowmass 2006 auction. Small wonder. He is sire to the incomparable Snowmass Invincible.
Her dam is also dam to Snowmass Nova, Snowmass Drambuie's Braveheart and Snowmass Magic Midnight. Now there's a genetic power house.
Her 2007 cria, Snowmass Midnight Sun now stood on our herdsire row after winning multilpe championship banners and coming back with not only incredible histograms, but on of the very best follicle density skin biopsy performed by Ian Watt at alpaca consulting and a glowing review of his fiber breeding potential by Paul Vallely in Australia. Check him out on our website to breed for these incredible genetics.
Dreams didn't disappoint us in 2008, bring us RR Rose Encatada, out of our own Guns n Roses. She is the "cream of the crop" and is an outstanding brown female. Encatada has already taken her first championship banner at age 8 months.
She also has been one of our best producers and mom to RR Arturo, now on our herdsire row. He boasts an outstanding show record and some of the best analytics by histograms and skin biopsies that we have seen.
And that's not all...Anastasia...only produced 2 of the best we have manufactured; RR Mercutio and the incomparable RR Verona.
Small wonder that she is rebred to RR Gun's A'Blazin...we'd be happy with any that he has produced with Golden Dreams...but are hoping for a Legato Grigio sequal.
This is one dam that we wish that we could keep, but at our size we have to be satisfied that her genetics dominate our herd and she still has years of production to invigorate another program.
She is very special.
Service Sire: RR DIZZY GILLESPIE ARI#

We are thrilled by the production of RR Rose La Reina, Dizzy Gillespie's mom who produced the 2 densest females biopsied through Ian Watt, as of oct 2015.
The icing was on the cake with the coming of Dizzy Gillespie who has a superior phenotype in solid rose grey, with fleece "to die for". He is the 2017 AOA National Fleece blue ribbon grey, both rose and silver combined.
He also has excellent follicle density testing by skin biopsy:
Follicle density: 61.8/cm2
S/P ratio: 10.8:1
Mean primary follicle diameter (in skin): 26.8 SD 3.6
Mean secondary follicle diameter (in skin): 23.8 SD 3.3
Dizzy was breeding by his second birthday and his cria are outstanding and he is making gorgeous roans!
Description
If you have a roan male, this is the female for you. She is a proven dam, sweet disposition and experienced mom who we think is the perfect match with a roan male.
There's Gold in this pedigree. Legacy Gold that is. He is a magnificent sire out of Legacy. Encantada's mom is one of 2 of his daughters that we purchased to bring those incredible lines to our herd. Golden Dreams, Encantada's mom, has Drambuie's Kaluha as her dam.
If the name Drambuie's Kaluha sounds familiar, it might be because she is also dam to Snowmass Nova, Snowmass Drambuie's Braveheart and Snowmass Magic Midnight. She's clearly proven her worth.
Encantada's dad is our own Guns n'Roses. He too, should be no stranger. He is an olympian rose grey who has proven, without a doubt, one of the most most prepotent greys in the country having sired offspring who have taken over 50 banners before his 5th birthday.
More to the point, their analytics have been outstanding with Encantada being a perfect example. Apart from her histograms, she has been follicle density tested by Ian Watt and as of Dec 11 is the densest female that he has tested in any color!
Her Watt skin biopsy showed:
Density: .......................................66.2
Secondary: Primary fiber ratio:.....11.2:1
In-skin primary fiber diameter:
20.5 micron (SD 2.9)
In-skin secondary fiber diameter:
14.6 micron (SD 2.2)
Comments: This is an exceptional female alpaca with the highest density figure we have tested in a female of any color and also a very good S:P ratio.
The fiber population differential is slightly higher than one would expect for such a dense animal but this is skewed by a couple of very low secondary fiber micron counts which create a wider gap than would otherwise be evident.
Nevertheless, this is an exceptional animal.
Exceptional indeed; we stopped doing histograms on Encantada at age 7 in 2016 at which time she was 22.1/ 4.2/ 19.1/ Comfort factor 95.9%!
Her offspring have held their micron and championed in brown and black.
For fall 2020 Rose Encantada presented us with a gorgeous male cria by Rr Dizzy Gillespie, RR Jupiter who is being offered with mom and should be taken to the show ring. This breeding has been repeated,
