Sire: Aussie Guns-n-Roses ARI#
30036107 Medium Rose Grey GnR is now owned by Fun in the Country Alpacas in Michigan. He remains on our "Hall of Fame" as herdsire emeritus, for all that he has contributed!
Deciding which herdsire to use in your breeding program? Here's what we do..
Pedigree: An excellent indicator of a male's EBV (estimated breeding value). We want lines with established pre-potency that have demonstrated sustained fineness through at least 4-5 years. Click on GnR's ARI cert icon above.
Conformation: It has to be a given, if it's not, the search stops here. We like a male that is well proportioned, but compact. We want good bite and head. Solid bone and strong fore and hindquarters. We prefer good sized testicles and want to see him breeding before age 2 and maintaining a vigorous libido thereafter...but an even non aggressive temperament. GnR is our poster boy for all of the above.
Fiber: Hand and uniformity: That's easy! Just put it against your cheek.A grid sample can be found by going to our website...he's consistant across a broad blanket top to belly, brisket to tail.
Fineness: It's not about 1st shear micron. What's the 4th shear like? Don't hide the SD and % over 30 micron...that's what the industry is crying for. And while your at it, check out the difference between the micron in primary and secondary fibers and their respective SDs (on skin biopsy stats).
Brightness: GnR's fiber glows...a quality not lost on every one of his offspring.
Density: Fiber doesn't have to "feel" dense...more often than not that's a sign of coarseness. Quite simply, GnR is the densest grey biopsied through Jim Watt's lab in Australia, and they've been doing it for over 20 years. If you click on the histogram icon, you will see his biopsy results. An explanation of those numbers can be found on our website.
Length: His fiber is ridiculously long. His 4th shear (at right) is only 315 days.
Dam: Aussie Hill's Destinee ARI#
30031368 Dark Fawn Destinee is one classy girl. She is beautifully proportioned, with a terrific top line and statuesque presence. Her fleece has a terrific handle and luster with uniformity through a blanket that extends well up her neck.
She is what you would expect given that her sire is MFI Donovan (Ppperuvian Augusto x 5Peruvian Durazna). She is half sister to Imbroglio, who sold for 70K as at yearling at the futurity. through her outstanding dam MFI Candy Corn. All of Candy Corn's offspring have won color championships.

Her 2008 cria, RR Gun's Ablazin' is absolutely sensational. Follicle density testing through Ian Watts showed him to be the densest non white alpaca that he or Jim Watt have tested as of 12/10/10.
2009 brought RR Rose Harmony an incredible fawn female that we lost to sepsis at 8 months of age.
2010 was a banner year with RR Renaissance Rose who we think might just be the equal of her brother. She now is one of our foundation females, having had a stellar show career.
For 2011 we bred her to Snowmass Midnight Sun in order to diversify our herd gene pool. Not surprisingly RR Prodigio is evidence that the best dams make the best crias. He is working as a herdsire now.
2012 gave us another stunner, RR Michaelangelo. Super fine extraorinarily dense fleece. No surprise given that his father, Snowmass RRoyal Stars, is one of the densest alpacas biopsied. We were also not surprised to get color from RRoy. That is all this male has given us!
We expect another knockout! And we got it in RR Prospector! Born 7/1/2014. Dad is Snowmass RRoyal Stars whose follicle biopsy (Watt) is 79.51.His half brother from Destinee is RR Guns Ablazin whose biopsy is 78.3. I think there are some pretty good odds for this little fellah!
Destinee has been re-bred to the extremely dense and superfine RR Arturo a summer 2015 cria.
Description
Co-owned by Renaissance Ridge Alpacas and UINTA ALPACAS and residing in Utah right off of I-80 for easy transport access!
Gun's A'Blazin' did in fact come into our herd in a "blaze" and took us through an incredible ride as a youngster.
He was without question the best fleeced alpaca that we had seen in our herd. He went on to have a brilliant show career and start his breeding career at only 23 months of age.
He was biopsied and follicle tested by Ian Watt and as of July 2010, is the densest non white alpaca ever tested by or either through him or Jim Watt's lab in Australia, of any in the world.
Although we rely heavily on biopsies for density, we put equal importance on histograms and especially "hand and eye", none of which Blaze has disappointed us with.
More importantly, his production has been nothing less than outstanding having produced champions in grey, black, brown and fawn.
We have our own "in house" EPD system and unfortunately are unable to demonstrate the analytics on Blaze's offspring. All of the ones in our herd have been done to date (9/2015):
Have a look at the data on the his page on the Renaissance Ridge website...the remarkable thing in our breeding scheme is not only that he has consistently and dramatically improved fiber density over the dams, many of whose data can be linked to, but that density has been accompanied by an across the board improvement the differential in micron between primary and secondary fiber, and an excellent SD in each fiber population.
Likewise the progeny histograms support the improvement in fineness, and uniformity.
Blaze has been a powerful influence in our breeding program.
