His kids still win big in the ring...2016 Gold Country Gathering KC son won RCC behind our own RR Dizzy Gillespie in Grey Male and KC daughter won Color Championship, grey female AND KC son won Black Color Championship (RR Lancelot)
KC took his first championship at 8 months of age. Since then, his fleece has maintained its length and fineness and he remains one of the best grey males in the country.
If you have a look at his Watt follicle testing results, the reasons will be obvious. The mix of black and white fibers in his grey is homogeneous in micron. He is the only alpaca, male or female, that carries the best characteristics of the Snowmass Peruvian Casanova and Guns n Roses lines. His production has not disappointed with multiple championships among his offspring.
His follicle density testing by Ian Watt is outstanding at his sampling at 2 years of age:
Density: 57.9mm/mm2
Seconday: Primary fiber ratio: 9.8:1
In-skin primary fiber diameter: 22.3 micron SD 3.2
In-skin secondary fiber micron: 13.7 micron SD 2.5
Comments:
"High density coupled with an excellent set of numbers for the secondary fiber population give this male potential as a significant sire in his color group. a group not known for its uniformity within each fiber population.
This is a significant animal for silver grey alpacas, where the black fibers tend to be very strong in micron and vary across the staple in most alpacas of this colour"

Dam: RR MIDNIGHT SONATA - Sold ARI#
31620123 True Black Midnight Sun has been very effective at pulling black and is our fawn/recessive black son of Snowmass Midnight Magic. We couldn't have been more pleased than with this breeding outcome. This is not your average black female!
Take a mimute to click on "Sunny's" link and see what his show record, histograms and biopsy stats look like. They are superlative and put him in a very special class of his own as a light fawn. But as a black...fuggetaboutit!
Sonata has killer fiber, even as a cria.
As for mom:
2009: 17.0/ 3.6/ 21.4/ CF 100%
2010: 18.6/ 4.0/ 21.7/ CF 99.0%
2011: 19.7/ 4.2/ 21.3/ CF 98.6%
2012: 20.4/ 4.3/ 21.3/ CF 97.6%
...not too shabby.
Oh...and check out mom's follicle testing. She is very dense with an excellent difference of just over 8 mm between her primary and secondary fiber micron. You don't expect analytics like this except in the very best blacks.
Breeding Sonata to Kit Carson was a "no-brainer".
BIOPSY RESULTS:
Density: 55.6/mm
Secondary:Primary fiber ratio: 11.5:1
In-skin mean primary fiber diameter: 28.1 µ Standard Deviation: 4.4 µ Range: 21.9 µ to 39.7 µ
In-skin mean secondary fiber diameter: 19.0 µ Standard Deviation: 2.8 µ Range: 13.2 µ to 30.3 µ
Comments:
Very good density for a black huacaya female with an excellent S:P ratio and an even secondary fiber
population. The primary fiber population shows some variation though the near 40 micron reading on the
histogram could be an outlier that is of less consequence when considering the overall numbers
Description
Moonshadow is a sturdy youngster with outstanding fleece. His pedigree is very strong and his fleece is outstanding. One might find a couple of isolated strands of white fiber in his blanket if one looks very hard, belaying a strong grey background. He sports a brilliant non fading blue black fleece that is beautifully organized into matchstick bundles.
He would be an excellent breeder for someone breeding for grey, who believe as we do, that tux to tux breeding likely causes lethal grey.
