Currently breeding in WA state... Legato Grigio is the assimilation of the 2 most important lines that we wanted to bring to our grey breeding program. He comes by his elite fleece not unexpectedly. Dad is RR Gun's A'Blazin' who has now shown by both histograms, and follicle skin testing that he is consistantly producing fineness, density and uniformity and was a 15 time banner winner. Mom, Snowmass Golden Dreams, has been one of our best producers. We have amassed countless banners from her offspring, among whom is our pre=potent herdsire Snowmass Midnight Sun. LG has demonstrated his pepotency repeatedly in his production. AS we had hoped, he is able to transmit solid grey as a dominant, in many shades. His progeny, as tested by histograms and biopsies (to date) attest to his prepotency...take a minute to check the stats on his offspring. There is but one to date that is not still in our herd...we have retained them all. His non grey production has championed in solid colors, fawn and black in particular. His pattern appears to be a spotting, not tuxedo , pattern and we have used him on solid colors with excellent success. We have not bred him to tuxedo patterns. He has not produced any blue eyed whites. It's deja vu all over again! Renaissance Rose is full sister to Gun's A'Blazin' (AKA Amazin' A'Blazin') and except for a relatively minor anatomical difference, could be his identical twin. She is a Champion, who has produced champions! She is a sturdy, well proportioned hembra with excellent production and our herd is dominated with the genetics that she and her full brother entrusted to our continuing quest for herd improvement...they are both catalysts, and RenRose is capable of propelling any breeding program to the next level. We would not offer her for sale, were it not for the fact that within our small program, we need to balance and complement her well represented genetics with some of our other equally illustrious lines...something that will come with her next breeding...unless of course, a prospective buyer is looking for a female who will "prove" the excellence of their own stud. We held her open to avoid a winter 2017 birth, but she will be bred to either Arturo or Touchstone, both incredible studs and half brothers. Billie Holliday is a strawberry roan daughter of Legato Grigio (blue roan). We should not be surprised that like Modigliani's older full brother Houdini that Modiglianii, he is a bay roan. *( i.e. Since we know that Arturo doesn't carry a black allele from extensive breeding outcomes, all that he can contribute is one of his 2 AbAb brown alleles. The resulting cria can therefore only carry one black controlling allele which could come from the dam. In this way he would be a carrier of a black (or silver) base coat to produce the heterozygous Ee bay base color). Through pedigree analysis of the A (brown/fawn) and E (black) color evaluation through 5 generations, we believe thatthere is a 50% chance that Modigliani carries black. In this particular case, Billie Holliday's much lighter (more diluted) coat color has been rendered as a fully pigment rich bay. We suspect that he doesn't carry any dilution gene's and would be an excellent candidate to breed to lighter colored roans. Bored by the genetics? Well then check out his fleece. He is carrying a ton of fiber with brightness, well organized staple, very nice length and spreads it uniformly over an expansive blanket. He has wonderful density. He is more than worthy to stand on stud row to breed back into the roans in our program. Our design has been to find a roan successor to Arturo and Touchstone who are both brown. Modigliani will carry on the Arturo line and Sherlock Holmes carry Touchstone's.
