Skyline's Antares
Huacaya, Female, Unproven | Light Rose Grey
ARI# 31133999, D.O.B. 5/11/2009, 7/8 Peruvian, 1/8 Chilean
Sire: Cl9 Golden Galaxy ARI#
847342 Light Brown Galaxy is a superb animal, all you would ever want in a herdsire, and we now know he passes on his excellent genetics to his offspring.
Galaxy's fleece is very fine with crimp, fineness and handle, and has superior density. His total shear weight in 2005 was 10 lbs and in 2006 he sheared 9.3 lbs.
Galaxy's cria have all been very nice, and it seems they get better every year. They have been born with really long staple length, and have all had incredible fineness, great crimp and bundling and really nice conformation with nice compact bodies, sturdy, and desirable heads. His offspring have been all we could hope for.
His notable cria of last year ('08) are Islandcrest's Batali, an outstanding medium brown male, with super crimp, a lot of shine and full coverage. Also, Islandcrest's Willow, the 3rd girl out of the pairing of Galaxy and our Cucina, she is the best with really long staple length with exceptional crimp, nice color and a compact body with very desireable head.
His first cria of '09 is a really nice Rose Grey female owned by Skyline Alpacas (see photo).
In 2005 Galaxy placed 1st in the AOBA Nationals, Salt Lake City, in the full fleece halter show, judged by Julio Sumar (who also placed him 1st in 2005's AWE show). Galaxy won his first blue ribbon at the age of 8 months and he continually placed 1st or 2nd in every halter show he entered.
So to sum it up, Galaxy is a wonderful animal in all areas. He has temperament and presence we could only dream of, which he seems to pass on to many of his offspring. He is an all around superb herdsire with offspring that are consistently amazing with awesome conformation and fleece qualities.
Dam: Skyline's Celeste ARI#
30852822 Med. Silver Gey Skyline’s Celeste is one of our outstanding Silver Grey foundation females who brings some of Chase Tavern Farm’s best grey genetics to the West Coast. We purchased her Dam, full Peruvian Bay Laurel from Chase Tavern and had an impressive male cria Silver Buck, out of Silver Dollar. We liked Silver Buck so much that we rebred Bay Laurel to Silver Dollar before we transported her out to our farm. We were so pleased to get a daughter out this repeat combination. For Celeste’s first cria we bred her to Golden Galaxy, a Med Fawn male, and didn’t expect a grey, but got Antares, a beautiful Rose Grey gal that we wish we could keep, but need to downsize the herd.
Celeste was never shown as she was a late fall cria and by the following spring we were breeding her. She conceived right away, and delivered without any issues. In 2010 she delivered a very spunky Dark Brown boy that has amazing style and a striking look in the pasture. Celeste’s fleece is very uniform in color with a lack of dark guard hairs, something that can be difficult to find in greys. She has also retained her fineness with a 22.7 AFD at age 3.5.
Description
Skyline’s Antares is another of our seventeen 2009 females that we hate to part with, but we can’t keep them all. Antares has a fine, bright fleece with a high frequency crimp. She has an outstanding handle and density as well.
Antares has impressive lineage in her background, so her quality is no surprise. On her Sire’s side, she gets Victor and Dom Alamir, and on her Dam’s side, she gets The Silversmith, and Peruvian Silver Cesario. When we bred Antares’ Dam, Celeste, to CL9 Golden Galaxy we weren’t thinking we would get a Grey. We knew we would get an outstanding cria with spectacular fleece, but a Rose Grey? We didn’t think so. When Antares was born we were thrilled!
We showed Antares at AWE this last spring and she took a 6th in a very large and competitive class. The judge especially liked her brightness & fineness. Her 2010 histogram is an impressive, 19.3 AFD, 4.4 SD, 23.0 CV & 1.7 %>30u.
As I said, we hate to sell Antares but we are sure she will be an outstanding production female for you.
