Northern Mystery's Khagan
Huacaya, Herdsire (Male), Proven | Medium Brown
ARI# 31940474, D.O.B. 7/11/2018, 3/4 Peruvian, 1/4 Chilean
Sire: BR Rum's Bocelli ARI#
32745429 Light Fawn To say that Bocelli holds a special place in my heart would be an understatement. He was produced by Ernie and Denise Gamroth at Battle River Alpacas, and his quality is a testament to their breeding program. His sire is Hummingherd's Rum Runner, a PC Running Late son; and his dam is BR Belicia, out of RGA Miguel and Monterra's Bellana, well known champion and champion producers in Canada.
Bocelli is a well put together male who displays an attractive, true to type head style. Judges have always remarked on the high degree of brightness and organization in Bocelli's fleece, its length, and the character that carries throughout from topknot to tail. He continues to maintain a very fine and dense fleece overall. He has produced several silky-fleeced cria to date (his pedigree includes several notable silky producers), with many of Bocelli's offspring displaying above average staple lengths across the blanket and into the neck, in addition to uniformity in micron, style and organization across the blanket. His cria can be identified day or night by their outstanding lustre alone.
Having been tested on a range of females, he has proven himself to be a reliable complement to every pairing in passing along his traits without sacrificing colour. To date, all but one of his cria have been the same colour, or darker than their dams. His extremely mild, sociable personality makes him wonderful to work with and be around, alongside his offspring who share his good nature.
Dam: LS Shahkell ARI#
31775595 Dark Fawn, Light Silver Grey, Medium Rose Grey Shahkell is a beautiful, coloured female with a buttery soft fleece and a proud carriage. Well grown, Shahkell has both lovely conformation and a feminine head. We really love her fibre. For a brown breeding female she is maintaining her fineness, with only 22.1µ in 2013, and a comfort factor of 98%. Her 2016 results told us that not only is she maintaining that fineness, but with a CV of 15.9, she is the most uniform animal on the farm alongside Samantha. You can really feel it when you touch her fleece.
She is a light brown, with deep grey points, and a lineage that suggests she will throw colour just as well. Her dam's side is full of colour, with grey and darks everywhere. This has come through in her progeny, when bred to Law & Order, a modern grey stud, Shahkell produced Alto, a beautiful silver grey male.
Her sire is Quechua's Shahtoosh, a well known male in the Canadian Futurity, excelling in 2010 and 2011. Her grandsire, Snowmass Quechua, was the 2002 US Futurity White Colour Champion, as well as Futurity Herdsire of the year in both 2006 and 2007. Furthermore, Shahtoosh's half brother, Snowmass Matrix, was the high selling male in 2010, selling for over $600,000 USD. So far, we are really liking the combination, and are pleased to see that it is pairing well with our own male's genetics! Her 2018 cria Khagan has gone on to take both 1st and Reserve Grand Champion Brown at his very first show, and we are expecting a long show career coming his way!
Description
Khagan means "Khan of Khan's", and boy, do we think this boy is living up to his name. Not only is this guy covered from topknot to toes in a rich brown fleece, he is bright, dense, and uniformly fine and full of crimp across his blanket. Set on a compact, conformationally correct frame, Khagan is a herdsire in the making, and we could not be more pleased with how he is growing.
His dam is Shahkell, who produces some of the most consistent fleeces on our farm, leaving her fibre always feeling wonderfully soft in it's handle. Bocelli, his sire, consistently produces long, bright staples and heavy fleece weights— and between the pair, longevity of fineness is something we expect to see in Khagan's future.
Temperament wise, Khagan is friendly and quick to learn, but very much of a spitfire amongst his herd mates.
We are very pleased to report that we're not the only one's admiring Khagan, with him having been awarded Reserve Grand Champion to the gorgeous male who went on to win Supreme Champion overall at the A.L.P.A.C.A. Spring Show!
2023- Khagan's first cria are now on the ground, and wow!
