Selene is a gorgeous fawn and very feminine alpaca. She has full coverage from head to between her toes. Her fleece is very fine with nice density, a shiny brightness to it with incredible staple length. We anticipate her to hold on to her fiber qualities because her mother, Sam is turning 9 this year and still maintains a low micron of 23 and SD of 3.8!
Selene also has dark skin on her muzzle and toes. She is conformationally correct in every way for she is very straight, has the correct bite and nice bone density.
Selene is a blend of Allianza and Accoyo as one her grandsire's is PPeruvian Victor(Accoyo), and a granddam, Peruvian Saffron (Allianza).
Selene's paternal sire, Snowmass Rembrant is a full Peruvian son of 5Peruvian Chaccu, a sire of champions, and 4Peruvian Orellana, a medium fawn import from the Sollocata region of Peru. Rembrant's fleece character is extremely dense, lustrous and has a high frequency, medium amplitude crimp. His conformation is typey and his temperament and presence are simply outstanding.
Selene's grandsire, 5 Peruvian Chaccu, was the 2001 AOBA National Show Blue Ribbon winner in the Get of Sire Class. Chaccu was originally used extensively in the Snowmass Alpacas Breeding Program. Chaccu represents rare blood here in the US as he is from the Puno Region in Peru where very few genetics were released during the imports to the US.
Selene's maternal grandsire - the late PPeruvian Victor had fleece that swept the awards in the 1995 AOBA National Fleece Show, garnering awards for Best Growth Huacaya, Most Uniform Huacaya, Best Crimp Huacaya, Spinners Choice, and Cottage Industries Choice. At the 1997 AOBA National Fleece Show, Victors fleece took first place for Adult Fawn Huacaya, and overall Knitters Choice Huacaya. In his prime,Victor sheared an incredible 14 pounds per year with over 8 pounds of blanket, and a staple length of over 6 inches. Victors offspring, and each subsequent generation, have won innumerable awards in the show ring and in fleece shows, and include many first place and championship awards in colors ranging from white, fawn, brown, to black. The hallmarks of Victor fleece genetics are superior crimp, density, luster, fineness, and excellent staple length along with his ability to transmit all of these qualities in a wide range of colors. Although Victor is no longer with us, the trademark style of the Victor crimp continues to be widely known in the North American alpaca industry. Many of his sons are now premier herd sires in their own right.
Selene has proven to be an excellent mother and throws rich color. Selene has had 5 beautiful cria ranging from dark brown to light fawn, all healthy and robust cria. She is an attentive, experienced mom with plenty of milk and easy deliveries.
